UrbanWorks Staff Serve as Design Facilitators for CMAP’s Big Ideas Forum

Pat Maria Ann BUZZUrbanWorks’ Maria Pellot, Ann Panopio, and Patricia Saldaña Natke participated in CMAP’s Big Ideas Forum: Designing the Future- Gen X and Millennials in 2050. By 2050, metropolitan Chicago’s senior population is expected to double. CMAP, Enterprise Community Partners, and Lifetime Communities Collaborative held a panel discussion on technology, design, and development. Panelists included Shelley Stern Gach from Microsoft and Matthew Phillips from Senior Lifestyle. UrbanWorks’ Associate Principal, Maria Pellot, and Project Manager, Ann Panopio, were Design Facilitators for the afternoon interactive Design Charrettes where real-life projects explored design solutions and provided technical assistance.

Panelist Patricia Saldaña Natke at AIA Build America Summit

Pat AIA Summit BuzzPatricia Saldaña Natke, UrbanWorks’ Principal, will participate in an AIA panel discussion titled “Opportunities, Obstacles and Economics” at the Build America Summit, held in New York City on November 30, 2016. The summit, hosted by the American Institute of Architects on November 29th and 30th, will serve as “a critical conversation to renew and rebuild America’s social infrastructure—the public buildings and spaces that are the heart of our communities” and will conclude with “recommendations to the incoming Presidential administration and elected officials across the country.” Other panelists include Kermit Baker, Chief Economist of the AIA and Christopher Leinberger, Chair for Real Estate and Urban Analysis at George Washington University. Moderated by Alan Greenberger, Drexel University Distinguished Professor, Department of Architecture & Interiors, Distinguished Visiting Fellow of the Lindy Institute for Urban Innovation.

Rob will be joined by Dr. Lennie Scott-Webber, owner & principal at INSYNC Education Research + Design, in a discussion moderated by Dr. Holly Cline, professor and department of design chair at Radford University.

Robert Natke to Moderate Panel Discussion at Student Housing Conference

Rob student housingRobert Natke, UrbanWorks Principal, will moderate a panel discussion at the Student Housing: State of the Market Conference, Wednesday, June 22, 2016. The conference will take place at the Gleacher Center of the University of Chicago, 450 N. Cityfront Plaza Drive. The three-hour program will discuss latest trends in Student Housing design and construction. Additional conference topics will include discussions on the latest trends in development, financing, investing, innovation and property management needs in the Student Housing market. The program begins at 7:30am with the panel discussion beginning at 9:00am.

Patricia Saldaña Natke is a Visiting Juror for Clemson University’s School of Architecture

ClemsonPatricia Saldaña Natke was a Visiting Juror for Clemson University’s School of Architecture 4th Year Synthesis Studios in Clemson, South Carolina on April 20, 2016. Student proposals explored the architecture of the institution of the Public Library: A 15,000 square foot branch library for Six Mile, South Carolina. Other jurors included Catherine Smith of Catherine Smith Architect, Jo Gilmour-Pike of Joeb Moore Architects, David Moore of McMillan Pazdan Smith Architecture, and Paul Mankins of Substance Architecture. The students and jurors were joined by Professor Timothy Brown, Director of Undergraduate Programs and Professor Katherine Lee Schwennsen, Director of the School of Architecture.

Patricia participated in the conversation, “The State of Civic Engagement in Chicago” led by New Civics Chicago; Maria Pellot participated in “Envisioning Equitable Communities” led by Enterprise Community Partners, Inc.; and Ameera participated in “Creative Solutions to House and Feed all Chicagoans” led by the Society of Architectural Historians.

On the Table is sponsored by Chicago Community Trust and is an annual forum designed to elevate civic conversation, foster new relationships and create a unifying experience across the Chicago-area. Thousands of residents participated in small-group conversations intended to inspire new ways to work together to make communities stronger, safer and more dynamic.

Patricia joined a Brazil representative of the film’s production company, Edward Keegan, Contributing Editor of Architect Magazine, and Brad Lynch of Brininstool + Lynch. The MOSTRA VI: Brazilian Film Series discussion was held on November 2, 2015 at the Illinois Institute of Technology MTCC Auditorium at 3201 S. State Street, Chicago, Illinois.

The day’s other panelists include Martin Felson, Jeanne Gang, Carol Ross Barney, and Robert Bruegman. Keynote address by Charles Waldheim of the Harvard School of Design.

FieldNotes: Architect as Trailblazer

The platform created an opportunity for critical thought, discourse, and hands on experience between professionals and students from IIT, SAIC, and UIC. It highlighted  makers who are developing tools to generate form, analyze design and construct physical objects through the use of digital fabrication. Patricia joined Gordon Gill of Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill, Keith Besserud of SOM Black Box Studio, Kelly Blair of Central Standard Office of Design and Tristan d’Estree Stert of ORAMBRA as guest panelists on October 10, 2014 at the Offices of Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill.
