UrbanWorks’ Buckingham Fountain Restoration in Chicago Architecture Biennial Tour

On September 23, UrbanWorks was featured in the 2017 Chicago Architecture Biennial Chicago Women in Architecture Walking Tour, which highlighted sites in downtown Chicago designed by female architects. UrbanWorks’ restoration of Buckingham Fountain was among the six sites featured on the walking tour. The Chicago Architecture Biennial (CAB) is the largest architecture and design exhibition in North America. Read more

Concordia Day Ribbon Cutting Ceremony and Press

UrbanWorks’ design for Concordia Day Ravenswood was unveiled today at a ribbon cutting ceremony for the 6,000 square foot childcare center. Located in Chicago’s Ravenswood neighborhood, the market-rate center intends to use its net revenue to underwrite subsidized programs at its other locations. Design features include classrooms that mimic a field of daisies, low height partitions between learning spaces, and acoustic ceiling panels which provide acoustical control between spaces as well referencing the petals of a flower. The project has also been featured in recent articles in The Chicago Sun Times as well as Crain’s Chicago Business.

A Safe Haven Announces Veteran Village Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

On Flag Day, Tuesday June 14th, 2016 A Safe Haven will host a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for the UrbanWorks-designed Melrose Park Veteran Village in Melrose Park, Illinois. The event will take place between 10:00am and 12:00pm. Local stakeholders and community members are invited to RSVP and join in this celebratory event. A Safe Haven Veteran Village provides 35 dwelling units for veterans and their families as well as an on-site Management Office and Tot Lot for children to play. This project will mark A Safe Haven’s 40th related housing development across the Chicagoland area.

UrbanWorks Concept Featured in AIA Chicago Tiny Homes Exhibition

The UrbanWorks concept ORIGAMICS was featured in the AIA Chicago Small Projects exhibition at Architectural Artifacts in Chicago, Illinois. UrbanWorks examined Origamics as a new paradigm, exploring the mathematical theory behind folding and the resulting algorithms those folds create. Structural folding planes respond to the physical and environmental needs of the residents creating a spatially engaging atmosphere that offers dynamism. The UrbanWorks design competition team members were Jose Esquinca, Tim Wang, Tej Varpe, Ameera Ashraf O’ Neil, Maria Pellot, and Patricia & Robert Natke. The international design competition launched in November 2015 solicited speculative design proposals that would provide housing for Chicago’s youth experiencing homelessness. It was organized by AIA Chicago, the AIA Chicago Foundation, Landon Bone Baker, Windy City Times, Pride Action Tank and funded by the Alphawood Foundation.

Presidential candidate Hillary Rodham Clinton visited the UrbanWorks-designed La Casa Student Housing in Chicago’s Pilsen neighborhood to discuss Immigration Reform today, Monday, March 14, 2016. She was joined by U.S. Rep. Luis Gutierrez and Dolores Huerta, the famous founder of the farm workers movement. La Casa Student Housing is an innovative model in student housing that surrounds students with many of the benefits and resources of on-campus living and the added advantage of an on-site Resource Center.
