Trianon Lofts

A bold vertical swath of green wall marks the entrance to this four-story, mixed-use structure in Chicago’s Woodlawn neighborhood. 24 two-bedroom market-rate apartments sit above 7,000 square feet of commercial space planned to help revitalize the Cottage Grove Avenue corridor. Above the first floor’s storefront glazing is a rainscreen-clad façade inspired by the traditional masonry buildings typical of the area. The exterior panels are articulated in a random pattern with subtly varied colors that create a dynamic rhythm with the shifting alignments of window openings. The result is a frankly efficient building whose mass and materials harmonize with its surroundings while its details offer a brightly contemporary look for its occupants.
