Instituto Main Campus

This addition and renovation of an existing brick building creates a dynamic and contemporary image for a revitalized institution. A new glass box sits atop part of the original building and exposes dynamic learning environments to the neighborhood. Below, an existing mural preserves the Instituto del Progreso Latino’s history as a cultural anchor within the community. A two-story masonry façade is reused as a courtyard façade and provides a sunscreen for the new glass walled spaces behind it.

Adaptive reuse, enhanced energy performance, reduced overall water use, integrated green roofs and solar/thermal panels are employed as environmentally responsible building strategies appropriate for a twenty-first century institution.
