Julia C. Lathrop Homes Master Plan

This 32-acre master plan revitalizes the Chicago’s Housing Authority (CHA)’s Julia C. Lathrop Homes, one of the few mid-century housing projects that is not being completely demolished. UrbanWorks led the community engagement process through the conceptual design phase. Key design principles stress a mix of public, affordable, and market-rate housing across the site on the Chicago River. The result will be CHA’s first LEED ND Gold neighborhood and establish a new standard for sustainable mixed-income development in the 21st century.
