The Instituto del Progreso Latino asked Urbanworks to explore the conversion of an existing loft building into a high school for 600 students and staff. The solution includes careful new insertions within the masonry structure with a bold graphic helping to establish the school’s identity. The site plan provides outdoor activity spaces and athletic fields within a challenging urban site. UrbanWorks’ conceptual scheme was a natural extension of its original work for IPL—that focused on the feasibility of the structure and contiguous properties for the proposed use. The scope included code analysis, zoning studies, and statements of zoning ordinance and building ordinance compliance. The concept design proposal integrates each of these concerns. |
