Magnificent Mile Sculpture: Green Revolution

This temporary sculpture installation along Chicago’s renowned North Michigan Avenue combines changing light pylons with clear plastic boxes of foliage. Dubbed “Green Revolution,” the pieces mitigate between the naturalistically planted sidewalk beds and the street’s iconic traditional and contemporary architecture. The lights are programmed to alternate between complementary and contrasting color schemes. The scale of the sculpture—larger than the plants, but smaller than the trees—provides a strong man-made counterpoint to their adjacent vegetative neighbors, posing profound questions about man and nature within the urban realm.
