This master plan provides a comprehensive analysis of existing conditions and proposes design opportunities for a nineteen-block swath of the Lawrence Avenue corridor from the Chicago River to Ravenswood Avenue. Primary recommendations identify locations for significant new architecture, plazas, gateways, neighborhood identifiers, outdoor cafes, and additional landscaping.
Specific designs for each of four distinct zones develop a richer urban streetscape by introducing more pedestrian friendly sidewalks, new street lighting, revised traffic lanes that accommodate bicyclists, and street plantings appropriate to each district. Green initiatives go beyond landscape elements to introduce permeable pavers and focused street lighting as part of an integrated strategy for a sustainable city. Construction Documents are currently being prepared for the Chicago River to Leavitt Avenue segment. |
