Commercial Corridor Audits – West & Northwest Regions
UrbanWorks developed the West and Northwest Region Commercial Corridor Analysis with SB Friedman Development Advisors and the City of Chicago Department of Planning & Development (DPD). The study establishes an analytic framework to evaluate community assets across the city’s West and Northwest Sides, evaluating retail presence, building scale, market reach, consumer buying power, business concentration, and pedestrian friendliness.
By identifying established segments, emerging segments, and dormant segments across the area, the assessment aids DPD in identifying appropriate strategic interventions to promote the economic vitality of commercial corridors on Chicago’s West and Northwest Sides. The document summarizes the analytical framework established to complete the assessment, categorizes corridor segments based on their market position, and identifies appropriate City interventions.
The document also describes best practices for supporting commercial corridors as well as implementation approaches for a selection of corridor segments.
