This 32-acre master plan revitalizes the Chicago’s Housing Authority (CHA)’s Julia C. Lathrop Homes, originally constructed in 1938 as part of FDR’s Public Works Administration. UrbanWorks led the Phase 1 Master Plan including the robust community engagement process. Key design principles proposed a mix of public, affordable, and market-rate housing across the site on the Chicago River, winning a 2020 Landmarks IL Richard H Driehaus Foundation Preservation award for rehabilitation.
