30 for 30: South Loop Elementary School

By May 15, 2024July 7th, 2025No Comments

As part of UrbanWorks’ 30th anniversary celebrations, we are featuring 30 projects from over the years that highlight our breadth of experience and passion for the built environment. UrbanWorks designed the South Loop Elementary School Interiors to stimulate student creativity, enhance communication, and foster a nurturing atmosphere. The LEED for Schools Silver certified building uses color theory and motivational phrases to highlight values like diversity, peace, and wisdom. Boldly patterned floors denote corridors and primary gathering spaces. Feature walls utilize different colors on each floor. And supergraphics and student-created murals enhance specific spots, and further promote a culture of imagination in this two-time award-winning school. Thanks to our clients the Public Building Commission of Chicago and Chicago Public Schools, architect of record SMNG A, and photographer Tom Rossiter.
